Story
Look at the stars! look, look up at the skies!
O look at all the fire-folk sitting in the air!
The bright boroughs, the circle-citadels there!
Down in dim woods the diamond delves! the elves’-eyes!
The grey lawns cold where gold, where quickgold lies!
Wind-beat whitebeam! airy abeles set on a flare!
Flake-doves sent floating forth at a farmyard scare!
Ah well! it is all a purchase, all is a prize.
– Gerard Manley Hopkins, 'The Starlight Night'
Like a brilliant star in the night, Stella is meant to be admired. Cut entirely on the bias, this dress plays with the notion of drape, from the sleek-yet-swingy silhouette of the dress to the ruffle sleeves, and lends the wearer some versatility with side ties that can form a bow in either the front or back.

Materials
This dress is made of ramie woven in Japan. A natural fiber deriving from a plant in the nettle family, ramie is one of the oldest known fibers used in the world and shares many characteristics with flax — both are coarse yet elegant, sturdy yet wrinkly, breathable and naturally anti-microbial — but is a bit more coarse and rustic. Ramie fabric has a similar roughness on the skin as linen does, so I wouldn't recommend it to those who have skin sensitivities to coarser fibers; however, for those who do not, ramie, like hemp or linen, gets softer and more lustrous each time you wash it. The color of the fabric is a rich, golden mustard brown, reminiscent of a bosc pear.
In addition to the fabric, this dress uses cotton thread, cotton bias tape and pocket lining, and cotton garment labels.
Fit
Take a look at our Size Guide to find your size.
The Stella has a significant amount of ease, but is most fitted in the bust and the hips, so I recommend going with the larger of the two sizes corresponding to your bust and hip measurements.
Sarah is wearing a size 4 and is 5'9" with a 33" bust, 24" waist, and 35" hip.
